Research Associate (Postdoc) on Radiation and Climate with the option to pursue a habilitation (postdoctoral qualification for professorship) § 28 Subsection 2 HmbHGInstitution: Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences, Department of Earth System Sciences, Meteorological InstituteSalary level: EGR. 13 TV-LStart date: 01.09.2025, fixed for a period of three years (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschafts­zeitvertrags­gesetz, WissZeitVG]). The contract provides for a maximum extension of up to three years depending on the associate's achievements during the first stage. Providing that a position is available and that requirements have been fulfilled, the associate may apply for temporary civil servant status in accordance with Section 28 subsection 2 HmbHG.Application deadline: 31.05.2025Scope of work: full-time position suitable for part-timeYour ResponsibilitiesDuties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate's own academic work.The position comes with a teaching responsibility of 4h/week. It is intended for someone aiming for a career in academia and offers the possibility to obtain a habilitation, prerequisite for professorships in Germany.Your ProfileA university degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.You should have a strong research profile in radiative transfer modeling, climate physics of Earth or other planets, or satellite remote sensing of water vapor and clouds.
