Hochschulrechenzentrum (HRZ) - We are the IT competence and service center of Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU). Whether data processing, infrastructure or telecommunications supply - we enable around 25,000 students and 5,800 employees to advance science and research for society every day. This makes us the technical nervous system of the university - you too can become a part of it. Strengthen our HRZ from 01.10.2025 on a permanent full-time basis as Group Manager (m/f/d) for basic IT services (focus: Microsoft services) Your environment The HRZ enables tomorrow's discoveries with today's IT - join us in the Basic Services team. Here you will manage the group, operate Windows systems, clusters and databases and develop concepts for our applications, such as the e-mail system and Active Directory. Become our player coach in the Microsoft environment! Your tasks at a glance Team leadership and operational management: personnel management, control and deployment planning, as well as active participation in HRZ internal contract and financial management Operation and development of central IT systems: responsibility for the operation and ongoing development of our Windows server environment and databases (including cluster solutions) Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange: Ensuring the stable operation and continuous improvement of our central directory service (Active Directory) and groupware environment (Microsoft Exchange) Software asset management: Establishing and implementing an effective software asset management system for compliance and resource efficiency Cloud services and future technologies: Designing and implementing innovative cloud offerings in the Microsoft environment. You design the introduction of Windows Server 2025 IT project management: managing ongoing IT projects as well as planning and implementing new, modern IT services, including using and coordinating external service providers User support: second-level support for our users to ensure our high service quality for the Group's services and systems Your qualifications and skills Completed relevant university degree or many years of relevant professional experience or proven equivalent skills and experience Many years of practical experience in personnel management and IT administration Excellent knowledge of architecture, design, implementation and operation of Windows servers and clients as well as directory services/domain structures (Active Directory) Very good knowledge of Microsoft Exchange and Windows-based storage systems Very good knowledge of the developments in the cloud product portfolio of e.g. Microsoft Good knowledge of data backup systems, scripting/programming languages, networks and network protocols Basic knowledge of alternative operating systems (Linux) is desirable Proven management skills in IT projects and in the use of service providers Knowledge of current IT security topics Very good German language skills (at least level C1) Good written and spoken English skills Organizational talent, high service orientation and quick comprehension skills Talent for analysis and communication as well as a solution- and results-oriented way of working Your advantages with us A varied job with flexible working hours Free use of local public transport (LandesTicket Hessen) More than 100 seminars, workshops and e-learning opportunities per year for personal development as well as a wide range of health and sports activities Remuneration according to pay group 13 TV-H, company pension scheme, child allowance and special payments A good work-life balance (certificate "audit familiengerechte hochschule") JLU sees itself as a family-friendly university.
