We, the Paul Ehrlich Institute,

are a federal scientific institution responsible for the testing and approval of vaccines and biomedical drugs and conduct research in the field of life sciences. Our network of national and international partners makes us a trusted partner for the public, the scientific community, the medical field, policymakers, and the business sector.

The Z5 “Information Technology” Division

ensures, through all its services, that the operation and further development of information technology, as well as the electronic maintenance of drug data at the PEI, are carried out while ensuring the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of all data at the PEI. In doing so, Department Z5 follows the best practices of the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL).

Its Responsibilities

• Ensuring the operation and administration of specialized applications, e.g., Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Chromatography Data Systems (CDS), and other in-house tools and interfaces
• Administration, monitoring, maintenance, and further development of server-based specialized applications, including updates and troubleshooting
• Independent design and coordination of system operations
• Programming, as well as the creation and customization of scripts and databases
• Planning, monitoring, and support of interfaces
• Technical implementation of department-specific requirements related to regulatory compliance, research, and batch testing
• Support and consultation for IT and cross-departmental projects
• Communication with external service providers regarding troubleshooting and potential adjustments
• Creation and maintenance of documentation

Our Requirements

• Completed degree from a university of applied sciences or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Business Informatics, or comparable relevant professional training in the IT field (including proven, long-term professional experience in the IT environment)
• Several years of general IT experience, particularly in the administration of server-based business applications and server operating systems (Windows Server, SUSE Linux)
• Knowledge of the entire application lifecycle (from planning to troubleshooting)
• Programming skills in Java, C#, JavaScript, and PowerShell
• Experience with relational databases (SQL and DDL) as well as system networking, interfaces, and web services (REST/SOAP)
• Knowledge of laboratory work is a plus
• Analytical, structured, and solution-oriented approach to work, as well as the ability to take initiative
• Strong ability to work in a team and willingness to learn new subject areas
• Excellent written and spoken German and good written and spoken English

The employment contract is limited to three years. Part-time employment is generally possible. The position is classified under E12 TVöD, Part I of Appendix 1 of the TVEntgO Bund.
