Ihre Aufgaben

Autoimmune diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Systemic Lupus Erythematodes (SLE) are severe, chronic inflammatory diseases where the immune system reacts against our body´s cells and tissues following generation of autoreactive immune effector cells and autoantibodies. Underlying the development of autoimmunity is a dysbalance of immune activation and negative regulation that is normally maintained by e.g. tightly regulated expression of activatory and inhibitory immunoreceptors. In our study we focus on the inhibitory immunoreceptor DCIR (dendritic cell inhibitory receptor) expressed on dendritic cells and innate effector cells as loss of DCIR is associated with enhanced immune activation and exaggeration of autoimmunity. Nonetheless, the exact mechanisms of how DCIR contributes to modulation of adaptive immunity remains poorly understood. Given the crucial role of IgG autoantibodies during disease, we are thus seeking to explore the relevance of DCIR for IgG-dependent modulation of immune cells. The research question will be studied using e.g. state-of-the multicolor flow cytometry, superresolution microscopy, multiplex-assays and RNA sequencing.The project is part of the DFG-funded GRK2599 “Fine-tuners of adaptive immunity”, a joint research consortium with the UKER Erlangen allowing for regular exchange with other doctoral students working on related topics and providing profound supervision and additional training.

Notwendige Qualifikationen:

• Completed M.Sc. in life sciences (biology, molecular medicine, immunology, etc.)

• Proficiency in english language

• High level of interest in the areas of (auto)immunity

• Motivated and independent working style and team-spirit as well as enthusiasm for the interdisciplinary work of the GRK

• Basic knowledge in immunology

Wünschenswerte Qualifikationen:

  • Practical experience in molecular biology methods (cell culture, PCR, microscopy, cell isolation from tissue, flow cytometry, ELISA) and in animal experiments is desirable, but not a requirement
